In Asian countries it is very common, but in the Netherlands people still have some difficulty with it: the toilet with shower. Also jokingly called 'shower for the buttocks', this is a small (hand) shower with adjustable spray jet. Some toilet showers have many more functions for a fresh bottom. Japan invented the toilet shower. Cleaning with water instead of paper is very common there. And that is not so strange: water plays an important role in our daily personal hygiene. We wash our hands under the tap and our body and head under the shower or bath. Cleaning with water gives the cleanest and most pleasant result; also down under.
Unfresh feeling Research by Gfk shows that the Dutch attach great importance to hygiene: 97% consider personal hygiene quite important or even very important. 36% of the Dutch indicate that they are bothered by not feeling clean after going to the toilet. In Spain, no less than 74% of people indicated that they are most disturbed by a dirty feeling after a visit to the toilet.
